To say year has been a roller coaster of emotions and crazy events, would be an understatement. From Donald Trump to #TakeAKnee to healthcare, you couldn’t turn on the news or walk into your office cube without hearing all the latest gossip.
With the year coming to a close, we have compiled our own data to showcase Match’s trends from 2017. From the most popular song on the site (Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You) to the top cities for late night conversations (a.k.a. – drunk texts, or as some might say a ‘booty call’), hint: Sin City.
Data from our Missed Connections feature, which uses location data to match you with fellow users you cross paths with in real life, showed us these top spots for meeting Mr. or Mrs. Right. According to Missed Connections, if you wanted to snag a doctor the most connections happened at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. If you’re the outdoors-y type, Golden Gate Park was a popular spot for California-loving. And don’t forget the party animals! Philadelphians can be found hitting up their favorite bars.
Have no fear home-bodies! Our singles also loved staying in and binging on their favorite TV shows. And Match singles didn’t discriminate either, there was a healthy dose of zombie/apocalypse sagas paired with nerds and family dramas. In fact, here are the most popular TV shows according to our singles:
- This is Us
- Game of Thrones
- The Big Bang Theory
- Stranger Things
- The Walking Dead
We also have to do a special shout out to all our ladies in Boston! Boston is home to some of the boldest women. Bostonian women were the top initiators of conversation followed closely by Sacramento and Tampa. Therefore, we weren’t too surprised when the top hashtag used on Match was #GIRLBOSS. Who run the world!? But did you also know what the number one modern turn on was for men? Female entrepreneurs (38%)! Entrepreneurs tend to be creative, industrious, self-confident and daring. It’s another step in the emerging global trend toward the double income family, successful business women and men who respect and admire working female partners for their business acumen.
