Troy Ruthruff, our Propose Perfectly contest winner, had the chance to select the perfect ring to propose to his wife-to-be Eliza with the help from our friends at Robbins Brothers. We sat down to chat with Troy about his ring buying experience at The Engagement Ring Store — see what he had to say about selecting the perfect rock!
What were you most nervous about as you set out to find the perfect ring for Eliza?
Honestly I really did not have a sense of nervousness or anxiety about picking the ring. I had an idea of what I wanted to give Eliza prior to the contest. I have purchased a large diamond in the past, and have had researched extensively.
Tell us a little about your experience at Robbins Brothers in Arlington, TX. When did you visit?
I visited the Robbins Brothers store on December 12th, 2013. The sales manager Eric Kolin was absolutely tremendous!!!! He really made me feel comfortable, and actually very special/important. His knowledge and professionalism were impressive. He went out of his way to not “sell” me. He instead asked questions about what I wanted and did an outstanding job helping to educate and lead me to the perfect ring to be presented to my beautiful bride to be.
How was the ring browsing? Did you go in to the store knowing exactly what you wanted to get Eliza?
I really did have a sound idea of what I wanted upon arrival. I knew that I wanted to stay with a traditional, timeless round stone. My only real question was whether I wanted to go with a larger stone and plain petite white gold or platinum band, or if I wanted smaller stones on the top and side of the band. At the end of the day, Eric helped lead me to a beautiful stone and a band with stones on the sides. I could not be happier with the selection that I made, it is stunning.
Did you have help navigating their selection?
Oh yes… Eric was right there every step of the way with knowledge, professional insight, and a desire to help lead me to the perfect ring for Eliza.
Tell us about the ring you ended up proposing with.
I selected a 1.25 Ct loose stone and they set it in a beautiful 14 k white gold ring with .15 ct stones that grace the sides of the ring.
Have you talked about wedding bands for the two of you?
We are still knee deep in the actual wedding planning phase at this point, and that has occupied the majority of our time. However, we have briefly discussed ideas of what we would like to get. Mainly for her… LOL… We would like to get a band that has several small diamonds that wrap the band to complement the engagement ring.
