Erika and I met on Match.com last December. She messaged me using the chat function on Match. We both had busy schedules, so we texted back and forth for about a month before initially meeting. It was my first time meeting someone from an online site, so you could imagine, I was a nervous wreck. I remember making her compliment my shirt because it took me hours to pick out. She lived in Raleigh and I lived in Southern Pines, about an hour away from one another. So for the first few months, we traveled to see each other. There was not a weekend we went without seeing one another.
When she finally asked me to meet her family, I was incredibly nervous. I wanted to make such a good impression, but the impression was made on me. When we went to Texas, I saw her taking care of her nieces and nephews. She was stunning, and could do a hundred things for the kids at once, all while keeping a smile on her face. From that point on, I knew I loved her and she would be the only person I could spend the rest of my life with.
About three months ago, I started planning my proposal to her. I wanted it to incorporate everything she loved. We go to the zoo and aquariums whenever possible and I knew how much she loved her nieces and nephews. Combining all those things was the tricky part. This was the girl I planned on spending the rest of my life with, so I wanted to make it a fairy tale proposal for her, a once in a lifetime moment she would never forget. I had everything planned out to a T. With a few minor details, it went down flawlessly.
After I proposed, ABC’s Good Morning America helped me out with the rest. They heard our story and asked to do an exclusive. I cannot begin to describe how happy this made me. I knew I had given Erika something special to remember for the rest of her life, but the publicity we received made it so we would never forget this moment. Most exciting of all, we will be able to share this with our future kids.
We want to thank Match.com for making our fairy tale come true!
