Match Weekend Mashup | July 26, 2013

Every Friday will give you a summary of all things relevant and hot in the media from the week that you should know for your weekend date!

Royal Baby, Birthed and Named: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their baby boy, Prince George Alexander Louis on Monday. Prince George of Cambridge is third in line for the British throne. His father Prince William and grandfather Prince Charles precede him. The happy family has chosen Kensington Palace as their new residence.

Who is Carlos Danger? Notorious sext-er Anthony Weiner finds himself in hot water again; except this time he’s adopted a pseudonym, Carlos Danger. Former congressman Weiner has been accused of exchanging sexts with at least 10 women a little over a year after his 2011 resignation. Weiner, who is currently bidding for the New York mayoral seat, is being asked to stop campaigning from his competitors and multiple pundits.

Amanda Bynes in Flames: After being found lighting a stranger’s driveway on fire, Amanda Bynes has been detained and was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold on Monday night. Bynes’ hold was extended for an additional two weeks on Friday and her parents will be seeking conservatorship to be her legal guardians and have influence over Amanda’s decisions.

George H.W. Bush goes bald: The elder George Bush shaved his head to show support for Patrick, the cancer-stricken son, of one of his Secret Service agents. The two-year old was diagnosed with leukemia, the same cancer that took the life of Bush’s three-year-old daughter, Robin, in 1953. Other members of the Secret Service showed solidarity with Patrick and the former president by also shaving their heads.

The Motor City, now a Ghost town? The city of Detroit became the largest American city to ever declare bankruptcy. Residents fear that their employee pensions will be frozen and have been filing lawsuits to ensure their dollars will continue to come. The city has asked Judge Steven Rhodes, the federal judge overseeing the bankruptcy, to suspend all incoming lawsuits to give the city time to restructure their budget.

Happy weekend! Let us know your thoughts on any of the stories above in the comments.
