Sexting- the new courtship method? See how singles are using sexy photos in their daily dating lives and how texting (versus calling) has it’s boundaries.



Sext-and-Tell. Over half of single men (57%) and 45% of single women have received a sext; and 23% of these singles have also shared a sext with others. Of those who’ve shared, a whopping 42% of men and 28% of women said they shared a sext with 3 or more people.

Are Singles Oblivious to the risks of sexting? A majority of singles believe sexting can hurt their reputation (75%), career (72%) self-esteem (60%), and relationships (69%). Despite these fears, 35% of single women 38% of men have sent a sext. The drive for love prevails.

Do men advertise by sexting? 42% of single men reported they would not be offended if a recipient shared their sext with others vs. 13% of women.

Young singles are more likely to be upset if the recipient shares the photo: 77% of singles in their 20s, as compared to 58% of singles 60+.

When is Texting OK?

When compared to a phone call…

80% of singles in their 20s think it’s OK to flirt with someone over text vs. a phone call– more than any other age group.

  • 43% of Singles in their 60s

Only 1/3 of singles in their 20s think it’s OK to ask someone out on a first date by way of text message vs. a phone call

  • 25% of Singles in their 30s

  • 13% of Singles in their 50s
  • 8% of Singles in their 60s

Over 90% of singles of all ages agree that it is not ok to text someone to break up.

  • Only 5% of women think it’s OK to break up with someone over text vs. a phone call

60% of singles think texting on a date is rude while a third of singles believe it’s okay only if it’s very important.

Do singles who sext, have more sex? Go on more dates?

Singles who sexts are more than twice as likely to have gone on 1+ first dates in 2012 than people who don’t (57% vs. 26%)

Singles who sext orgasm more than singles who don’t — 41% reach orgasm 91-100% of the time vs. 39% of singles who don’t sext

Singles who sext are more than twice as likely to have sex on a first date than singles who don’t (12% vs. 5%)
