“Holidating” is an ongoing Match.com blog series focusing on data from a recent Match.com survey on singles and the holiday season. Stay tuned for more posts examining the data in the upcoming week!
Singles! It is time to be the life of the party… the holiday party, that is. When we asked single men and women across the country to rate their favorite holiday traditions, going to holiday parties ranked high in the minds of singles. However, ask them to throw a holiday party? You’ll find no one on that list!
While being a guest was the best, hosting the holidays ranked last on the list of favorites. In fact, men were more pumped about parties than women! When it comes to a hankering for holiday soirées, our survey showed that 38% of men have fete fever, while only 24% of women are equally as enthusiastic about sharing a room with revelers.
What does this mean for “all the single ladies?” It means it is time to put your party frock on and rock jingle bell rock! Finding a good date is like fishing, you are more likely to catch a good one in a stocked pond. Holiday parties are the season’s best fishing holes. Get hooked now.
Furthermore, attending a holiday party ranked second with singles’ favorite holiday traditions. What was first on the list? Singles singled out giving/getting gifts. However, in the same breath, more than half of singles have been disappointed by a holiday gift from a significant other. Plus, nearly 75% of women have been disappointed with a gift from a significant other at least once (versus 47% of men.)
Therefore, my vote is to move the holiday party to the top of the list. Instead of giving/getting gifts to/from your date, give the gift of gab, gatherings and good times. When it comes to being single and surviving…scratch that, thriving this holiday party season, I think Pink’s lyrics say it best: “I’m comin’ up so you better get this party started!”
