After growing up in Portland Oregon for 21 years I decided to move Colorado to get a job with the wilderness program Outward Bound. I was new to the Boulder area and was honestly just looking for good people to become friends with. After meeting David on Match, we went out to dinner and have been together ever since.
Six months after we started dating and six days before I was going to start a job with the wilderness program, I was hit by a car and thrown 22 feet. I suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken arm, cracked skull and fractured vertebrae. I was in a coma for two weeks and my boyfriend David was the first one to the hospital. He asked my parents that night if he could marry me and slept by my bed night after night. The brain injury caused severe intracranial pressure and David would put his hand on my chest and sing to me. He amazed the medical staff by bringing my brain pressure down.
When I awoke from my coma I was extremely confused and so afraid and everything hurt. David held my hand and told me everything would be okay. About a week after waking up David knelt on one knee and told me he never wanted to live without me. With tears in his eyes he said he loves me and wants us to spend our lives together. He then asked if I would be his wife and I was overwhelmed with emotion and felt so grateful to have him in my life. I said yes and told him I could never imagine living without him either. He really is the most amazing man and I am so fortunate to have found so many blessings in such a terrible accident.
I am making a good recovery and our wedding was scheduled for May 16, 2012, one year to the day of the accident! I can’t thank you enough for bringing this incredible man into my life.
