This Earth Day, why not challenge yourself and your date to an Earth Date? In a recent Happen Magazine poll of over 12,000 singles, we found 52% said it was either “very” or “somewhat” important that their date lives “green”- making environmental dates oh so eco-chic! Check out these hand-picked, carbon footprint-friendly date ideas by our Relationship Expert, Whitney Casey, and you’ll be sure to keep your romance red-hot while still helping the planet!
Meet your date on a weekend morning at a local farmer’s market. It’s a great way to support the local agriculture movement—the less the food has to travel to your table, the better for the planet. Pick out fruits and veggies that will rev up your love life: tomatoes, squash, zucchini, peas, carrots, yams, avocados, mangoes, papayas, bananas, pears, plums, peaches are all “put you in the mood” foods!
Screen on the Green
Find a local outdoor movie venue, throw down a blanket and enjoy the big screen with the big sky, and the movie stars with the real stars! Pack a picnic out so you can have a little sexy time with the earth and your date- but be sure to use recycled paper plates and napkins.
Crank up the Candlelight
Pledge to having dinner with only candlelight- you’ll feel sexy just lighting them- and EVERYONE looks great in candlelight! Use soy candles to reduce the environmental impact. For the biggest impact use vanilla or chocolate-scented candles; these scents are great aphrodisiacs!
Sport your Sexiness
One of the best ways to go green is by playing outside! The endorphins and energy you get from being active with your date will boost that libido, so get out in the open– bike, kayak, canoe, sail, horseback ride, play tennis at free courts, walk in the park, enter a 5k with your date, or a walk-a-thon for a cause. Less consumption of fuel by driving a car equals less consumption of energy used by the earth.
Clean up Your Act!
Look for ways you can help with city improvements together- some only require two or three hour time commitments, making them a perfect afternoon date. In San Francisco, you and your date can help clean the Bay, or if you live in the Windy City, then attend a local graffiti-removal party. New Yorkers can plan a date at a local park clean up. Every city is in need of some greening, just do a bit of research on the web, and you could book a month’s worth of dates!
