For New Year’s Eve (or any special occasion), you and your date don’t always have food and drink first on your mind- its more about the experience and the atmosphere. That being said, just because you stay in for New Year’s Eve doesn’t mean the evening should lack any luster that a night on the town would offer. Think about ambiance (candles, nice place settings, music) and dress your best- the more effort you make into creating the right mood, the more special your date will feel. Here are some tips on creating a relaxed yet impressive date night at home:
- Be picky. Create a menu based on specific favorites of your date. Choose three or four courses but plan as much ahead of time as possible so you are not stressed in the kitchen the night of.
- Kick things off. Set the tone with a kick-off cocktail. Let your date know this is not your typical dinner by greeting them with a sparkling drink- Prosecco with berries. This cousin of Champagne is extravagant only in taste, not in price. Pick their favorite berry (raspberry, strawberry, blackberry) and set them out for your date to add to their glass.
- Snack while you prep. When your date first arrives, have some roasted nuts (pine nuts, almonds, pecans) tossed with some olive oil and spices like salt and cayenne pepper out to nibble on.
- Create the meal together. Invite your date to help you prepare your meals but keep the mess away from the dress!

Second Course - It’s all about presentation ladies and gents! Remember the little details are always noticed.
Dessert - Finish it off with a classic recipe with an out-of-this-world twist!
